MARION NEUMANN

Multidisciplinary artist

Marion Neumann

“What connects all my projects is the intention to raise awareness of the unique opportunities offered by the study of mycology. Whether it’s the significance of a deep connection with nature, the cultivation of healthy food, the revitalization of land, or the connections between people—exploring their capabilities allows us to experience the fertility of life and death in a very concrete way. Mushrooms inspire me to explore the unknown, to look beneath the surface, to adapt, to respect imperfections, to slow down, and to continually seek out alternative paths.”

This vision defines the work of Marion Neumann—a filmmaker, performance artist, and mycology enthusiast who is now regarded as one of the most innovative voices in the field of artistic mushroom research. With her second documentary, *The Mushroom Speaks*, she has elevated the subject of mushrooms to a poetic yet scientifically grounded level, exploring their unique capabilities. A vision of interconnectedness and collaboration, of resilience and autonomy, of responsibility and healing runs through the conversations in the film.

Artistic Roots

Drawing on her background in film, Zen, and yoga, and driven by a passion for sound and breathing techniques, she creates performative spaces dedicated to the phenomenon of mushrooms. Her multidisciplinary approach combines contemplative practice with artistic research, thereby creating unique experiential spaces.

Personal motivation

“Through my work with mushrooms, I tend to see the world in all its countless connections. By reflecting on the consciousness of mushrooms, I allow myself to celebrate a joyful relationship with the natural world in my daily life. Mushrooms have the amazing ability to change things very quickly—and so do we.”

Commitment, Awareness, and Transformation

As a founding member of the Eleusis Society, Marion is dedicated to promoting a better understanding of non-ordinary states of consciousness. She is a member of the gaiamedia Foundation, which is committed to fostering a deeper understanding of nature and human existence. Through the publishing house Editions Solanacée, she is contributing to the rebirth of a psychedelic culture in order to spark a collective movement toward a new consciousness.

Current Work

She is currently training to become a Gestalt therapist (sfgt.ch) and is working on her new film. Inspired by the mycelium of stories, she joined the Mycoverse Foundation.

A particular strength – collaborative work

She knows how to combine artistic sensitivity with scientific curiosity and advocates for an integrative understanding of nature—as a living network in which fungi act as mediators between worlds. At the Mycoverse Foundation, she brings her experience in artistic research, performance practice, and cultural outreach to bear, helping to raise awareness of fungi as guides toward an interconnected future.
