Mycologist & President of the Mycoverse Foundation
“Without an understanding of the vital role that the environment plays in food production and the treatment of human diseases, we will not have optimized food production or a healthcare system capable of reaching its full potential. Fungi, which existed on our planet millions of years before plants and other organisms, have far greater potential to save and restore our environment and health than we can imagine.”
These words reflect the deep conviction that forms the foundation of the Mycoverse Foundation —a conviction shaped by more than two decades of scientific research and practical experience.
Mark Stüttler, an Austrian mycologist and visionary entrepreneur, has embodied our Foundation’s mission for over 24 years. His journey into the fascinating world of fungi began during his college years, when he developed a deep fascination for these extraordinary organisms. What started as a biological research project on the cultivation of higher fungi and the establishment of a temporary test laboratory in Vienna evolved into a lifelong mission.
1998 marked a turning point: Mark and his brother, a mycologist who shared his passion for the fungal kingdom, ran Myco-Labs in Vienna. This first venture laid the foundation for nearly a decade of intensive research and production of edible and medicinal mushrooms.
The move to Innsbruck in 2007 opened up new opportunities. The founding of Mushroom Research Center Austria GmbH (MRCA) made it possible to take mushroom cultivation research to a new level. Five years later, Mushroom Production Center GmbH (MPC) was established—another milestone on the path toward realizing a sustainable mushroom industry.
This innovative spirit gave rise to the “Tyroler Glückspilze” brand, which today, as an established European brand for medicinal mushrooms, makes the therapeutic power of mushrooms accessible to everyone.
Over the years, an impressive international network has developed. Through participation in countless conferences, workshops, and training programs in the Netherlands, the United States, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Colombia, China, Japan, and Austria, valuable connections have been forged with the most renowned figures in mycology—including Dr. Paul Stamets, Dr. John Holliday, and Prof. Solomon Wasser —as well as leading universities and research organizations worldwide.
Since 2012, the organization’s mission has centered on developing and delivering lectures and training programs on mycotherapy and mushroom cultivation in Europe and Africa. The emphasis is on promoting food safety and sustainable production techniques that utilize local resources—an approach to decentralization that empowers communities and regenerates the environment.
As a sought-after consultant for projects in mushroom cultivation, mycotherapy, and mycoremediation, Mark shares his knowledge with those interested.
2022 was the year a vision became a shared mission. Mark Stüttler, Alexis Kaiser, and Dominik Risch founded the Mycoverse Foundation with a clear mission: to share their passion and expertise about mushrooms with the world and pass it on to future generations.
The Foundation stands for more than just knowledge—it embodies the belief that mushrooms have the power to fundamentally transform our relationship with food, health, and the environment. At a time when sustainable solutions are needed more urgently than ever, the Mycoverse Foundation opens the door to a future in which the knowledge of mushrooms, accumulated over millions of years, can finally reach its full potential.
“The future is interconnected like a mycelium—and it begins today.”
