Attorney & Vice President of the Mycoverse Foundation
“The future of health and environmental protection lies in the wisdom of mushrooms. But to realize their full potential, we need not only scientific knowledge but also a regulatory framework that fosters innovation while ensuring safety.”
This conviction shapes the work of Alexis Kaiser—a business lawyer, mycology enthusiast, and bridge-builder who is now working as a pioneer for the regulatory integration of medicinal mushrooms in Europe. With his unique combination of legal expertise in international asset structuring and passionate commitment to the therapeutic use of mushrooms, he has elevated the topic of medicinal mushrooms to a level that is both scientifically sound and practically applicable.
Born and raised in France, Alexis laid the foundation for his extraordinary career in 1998 with a degree in International Business Law from Sorbonne University in Paris. That same year, he broadened his academic horizons by studying economics at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland—a combination that gave him a deep understanding of the complexities of international business relations. His professional journey took him through the financial capitals of the world: London, Lausanne, and Moscow. For twelve years, as a corporate lawyer in Zurich, he shaped the landscape of wealth structuring and investment fund regulation, specializing in cross-border transactions and the structuring of international assets.
2013 was the year that changed everything. A trip to Brazil opened Alexis’s eyes to a whole new world: in the ecosystem of the Amazon rainforest, he discovered the fundamental role of fungi—those silent architects of life who orchestrate nutrient cycles and keep ecosystems in balance. His personal experience with Cordyceps sinensis, the legendary medicinal mushroom from the highlands of Tibet, became the catalyst for a profound transformation. What began as curiosity evolved into a burning passion for the therapeutic use of medicinal mushrooms.
His decades of expertise in the regulatory field are now being channeled into a mission of the utmost importance: reforming EU regulations on medicinal mushrooms under the Novel Food Regulation. Alexis is working to establish standards and guidelines for the production of mushroom-based products in Europe—an effort that could lay the groundwork for a new era in mushroom therapy.
Today, Alexis regularly shares his knowledge at conferences and lectures, making the extraordinary properties of mushrooms accessible to a wide audience. In 2022, he founded the Mycoverse Foundation in Liechtenstein together with Mark Stüttler and Dominik Risch—an institution that embodies the goal of making knowledge about medicinal mushrooms accessible to the general public and building a bridge between traditional knowledge and modern science.
He knows how to combine legal precision with a passionate commitment to mycology and advocates for an integrative understanding of innovation—as the interplay of law, science, and nature. As a native French speaker with fluency in German and English, he embodies the international focus of the Mycoverse Foundation. At the Foundation, he contributes his expertise in international regulation, asset structuring, and mycology, helping to make the transformative potential of the fungal world accessible to the public through pioneering regulatory work and knowledge dissemination—in a future where law, science, and nature work together in perfect harmony.
